Crate Paper Layout

Class with Michelle Mullins

Class Requirements:

3 sheets co-coordinating Crate Paper cut to the sizes as listed below:

- Piece 1: (I have used a floral) cut to 30 x 30 cm

- Piece 2: (I have used stripes) cut 1 strip 4cm x 30cm with the stripes running horizontally. Cut a piece 11cm x 21cm so the stripes run vertically.

- Piece 3: (I have used spots) cut 1 strip 3cm x 30cm.

Decide which of the two sheets has the better co-ordinating back and cut a strip 3.5cm x 30cm.

Out of the other sheet cut a circle with 7.5cm diameter.

Matt your photo in either of the back colours, leaving a 2mm matt border.

3 chipboard flowers painted to compliment the colours of your layout.

1 fabric blossom to compliment your layout

1 ribbon 40cm

1 ribbon 20cm

Chipboard alpha - if necessary painted to compliment the colours of your layout

Journalling strips (I have used one of the backs of the patterned papers to make mine.)

A single letter embellishment to suit your photo, or the persons name (I have used fabric alpha, but you could use a charm alpha tied with ribbon)

Coordinating Brads

Tools Required:

Your Normal Scrapping Tools

Some Sandpaper

Ink

Sewing Machine (optional)

One 5 x 7-portrait photo to suit your pp (either b&w or colour)

Instructions:

Step 1:

Take all you pieces of cut pp, sand and ink.

Step 2:

Ink your chippie flowers, and alphas if necessary

Step 3:

Adhere the 4cm x 30cm strip of pp to your backing pp, 1.5cm from the right hand side.  Stitch with zigzag stitch down the right hand side of the strip.

Step 4:

Take the 11cm x 21cm strip of pp and adhere 7cm from the top of the backing pp, butted up to the strip of pp. Stitch the bottom of this piece with zigzag stitch.

Step 5:

Place your matted photo on your layout - DO NOT ADHERE - so it is butted up against the strip.  Mark the placement of your photo on the left hand side.

From your 40cm piece of ribbon cut 2 pieces 14cm.

From your 20cm piece of ribbon cut 1 piece 14cm.

Adhere the first ribbon 1cm from base of the stitched pp so that it extends from the edge of your layout to under the photo.

Continue with the remaining two ribbons.

Step 6:

Place the circle so that the top of the circle is 2 cm from the top of the layout, and overlapping the strip of pp that runs vertically on your layout. Mark where the strip meets the circle, Top and bottom, lightly draw the line between two dots and cut off this section, and discard. Just sand and ink where you have cut the circle.

With the remaining pieces of ribbon, mark on your circle where you would like them to sit, and fold ribbons and adhere to the back of the circle. Adhere the circle to the layout.

Step 7:

Adhere your photo to the layout, 1 cm from the top of the horizontal piece of pp, butted up to the vertical strip of pp.

Step 8:

Take your 3cm x 30cm strip of pp, and adhere to the plain side of the 3.5cm x 30cm piece of pp.

Adhere this strip to the base of your layout, so that the top just overlaps the base of your photo.

Step 9:

Take 1 chippie flower and pierce where the brad is to go through.  Place the brad in the hole - do not secure just yet.

Take the fabric blossom and fold in half.

Place this behind the chippie flower, and push brad through.

Secure to your layout where the photo and the crossed pp meet on the bottom right hand side of your layout.

Step 10:

Attach the remaining 2 chippie flowers to the left hand side of your layout at the corner of the horizontal pp.

Step 11:

Add your title across the bottom matted strip, starting at left hand side.

Add your journaling strips, on the left hand side above the title.

Place a journalled date strip on Right hand side, at the top of the photo.

Add your initial alpha to the top of the photo, on the circle.
